Otley Cycle Races Partner with Rayner Foundation for the 2024 Elite Race Grand Prix

Cycling charity The Rayner Foundation have announced a significant new partnership with Otley Cycle Races. This year’s evening of racing on Wednesday, 26 June 2024, in Otley will culminate in The Rayner Foundation Elite Grand Prix, a highlight of the British cycling calendar.

The partnership between the Rayner Foundation and Otley Cycle Races underscores the charity's commitment to nurturing future talents and advancing the sport of cycling in the UK.

Otley Cycle Races remain the most prestigious criteriums on the British racing calendar. Now in their 41st year, the races continue to be a pivotal event in the UK. Previous winners include World Champions Tom Pidcock, Lizzie Deignan, and Rayner Foundation Trustee Jonny Clay.

This year's Rayner Foundation GP will showcase elite cycling and highlight the Foundation's essential work in building a brighter future for cycling by supporting and empowering the next generation of UK cyclists. The charity enables young athletes to compete and train across Europe & promotes inclusivity and diversity within the sport. Many Rayner Foundation riders, past and present, will compete for the coveted win. Last year, one of the funded riders, Bob Donaldson, was victorious.

The Rayner Foundation plays a crucial role in the cycling community, offering much-needed financial support and development opportunities to under 23 riders. The Foundation's efforts ensure that young cyclists achieve their potential by fostering personal growth on and off the bike. The dual focus of the charity is on elite athletes and underrepresented groups, and as such, the Foundation actively works towards creating a more inclusive cycling environment.

Race Organiser Sonja Harper commented, “I’m delighted that we’re able to entitle our elite race to The Rayner Foundation this year. I hope it raises awareness of their great work in supporting young cyclists and enables them to raise more money to continue with this.

"The generous sponsors of Otley Cycle Races, including Park Lane Homes, ID Planning, and Blacks Solicitors, have made Renaming the Elite Race to the Rayner Foundation Race possible. Hats off to them for forgoing their exposure and naming the race for a charitable cause instead.

"They believe this will provide a platform to raise awareness of and support for the Foundation’s objectives. They also hope to raise the profile about the need for funding and the critical role of community and corporate contributions in sustaining the future of young cyclists. We’re looking into what fundraising possibilities will be possible on the night."

Joscelin Ryan, a committee member and rider liaison at the Rayner Foundation, stated, "We are thrilled to be associated with such a prestigious event as the Otley Cycle Races. This opportunity allows us to showcase the tangible impacts of our support for young cyclists and to engage more deeply with the cycling and sporting communities."
